brief
Emel and Aris is a start-up wearable technology company. It’s also a high-end, high fashion brand. Founded in 2016, Emel and Aris have created the world’s first ‘Smart Coats’ – stunningly tailored coats with groundbreaking intelligent heating technology.
Emel and Aris are also are a highly innovative, highly ambitious business. They appointed Lionhouse to define their brand identity, to design and produce a responsive website and crucially to deliver their crowdfunding kickstarter project.
Brand identity
A multi-layered brand identity.
The idea behind all Emel and Aris coats is simple, but clever. Using a three layered system – the outer fabrics, intelligent heating panels and your own skin – the coats are designed to keep your body warm at just a touch of a button. When it came to creating a brand identity to represent this, we had to interpret this into a an equally simple, clever and elegant idea: The triple line marque. With this core idea, we were able to craft a complete toolkit to use across all of their collateral including packaging design, website, emails, print and film.
Kickstater Launch
Support for a hugely successful Crowdfunding launch
Even though the client came to us with a fully formed idea, they wanted to launch the brand via Kickstarter to help them gauge public interest, raise their profile and secure vital funding to make their idea a reality. Following the creation of the brand identity, we were tasked with bringing the brand to life by creating their complete Kickstarter profile.
With an outline of the content and their funding goals, we had to effectively communicate the product benefits and make the products look as good a possible. Using a combination of bespoke illustration, clean graphic design and animation, we designed a profile that communicated the core brand idea and nitty gritty product details, into an easy to follow and understand layout.
The crowdfunding process was a huge success and their cool approach and determination to succeed gained them features and exposure in GQ, the BBC and Wallpaper magazine.
Performance
“…they created an eye-catching Kickstater campaign that reflected our premium position, that went on to exceed our target by 40%. “
Website design and build
Stylish products deserve a stylish website.
Following the completion of their crowdfunding process, we helped to plan, design and develop a completely new ecommerce website. The site had to reflect the core brand values, so it needed to look chic and also use impressive slick technology.
Initially we worked closely with the client to create and test a set of wireframes that incorporated simple user experience features and an easy to navigate presentation of the brand information. From a visual design perspective, we had already established the brand identity and central look and feel through the Kickstarter and packaging design, so the website simply became a continuation of this clean and straightforward style.

Ecommerce Development
A site that shopped, but never dropped.
The site was built suing Woocommerce, incorporating international payment gateways and an easy to manage stock system that the client could efficiently look after themselves. It was fully responsive and optimised to work for mobile users on the go. We built a custom basket process and account system, including an ajax based cart process, to allow users to shop and check out quickly and conveniently. We integrated the client’s social media feeds and created a journal page to keep the content fresh and support their ongoing marketing activity.
